President’s Message, March 2026

Hi Stone loving folks,

So often we think of NWSSA as a great place to meet fellow stone lovers and a fabulous organization to hang out with: at shows, at symposiums, during field trips, etc. But it is much, much, more. I’m sure you’ve noticed that we frequently ask members to volunteer…for something, anything.

So I’ve put together some of the behind the scenes aspects. Feel free to drop me a note, or any of the Board of Directors, to enquire about YOUR organization.

• The Northwest Stone Sculptors Association (NWSSA) is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to supporting the art of sculpting stone.

• We foster education, offer a strong network of support, and connect artists with regional, national, and international communities for learning, collaboration, and the celebration of the art.

1. Help provide sculptural art resource to public and private interests
• Display examples of sculpture in public environments.
• Display examples of sculpture in a commercial environment.
• Display examples of sculpture in private environments.

2. Provide educational resources to the public
• Sculpture development workshops and classes.
• Sculpture development and demonstration.
• Lectures and seminars on sculpture development, individual artists and their work, art and cultural history, international guest artists and placement of sculpture in the environment.

3. Provide public access to regional, national and international symposia on stone sculpture
• Attendance
• Tours
• Documentation

4. Provide sculpture and art education resource to public and private educational institutions
• Classes

5. Facilitate cultural exchange through sculptural art

• Provide opportunities for local artists to attend symposia and seminars in diverse national and cultural environments.

Join the conversation! What needs to be added, or emphasized, or changed.

Waiting for your reply!

Tamara Buchanan
