CALL TO ORDER
A meeting of the Board of Directors of NWSSA was duly called on October 19th at 6:30.
Denny Tsang, President, called the meeting to order.
Meeting minutes of previous meeting passed unanimously.
Agenda items:
- Website Redesign with Leah
- Arboretum sculpture walk with Carl
- Flower and Garden Show
- Women’s Hand Carving Event Update
- Committee update: Who is chair? What are their next steps?
- Pro Bono Attorney
- Leah Davidson approached the board and offered to volunteer to redesign the NWSSA website to make it more user friendly. Carl Nelson agreed to help her to do that. Board agreed to have her be the Chair of that committee
- PROPOSAL – Carl Nelson made the following motion: The NWSSA sponsor the Sculpture Show at the Everett Arboretum. This will be a two day event. NWSSA will handle all sales at the event. NWSSA will develop promotional materials and prices for the sculptures that are on sale. Carl will be the chair of this commitee.
Rick Johnson made the motion to accept Carl Nelson’s proposal. Tamara Buchanan seconded this motion.
Discussion ensued.
VOTE TAKEN; Passed unanimously. - Flower and Garden Show- No update yet. Further discussion will be held on email.
- 4-Women’s Hand Carving Event.
Proposal: Ellie Hochman made the proposal that NWSSA sponsor the Women’s Hand Carving weekend on June 3, 4 and 5, 2022 at The Old Alcohol Plant in Port Hadlock. $1,000 will be available for scholarships, incidentals and a ledger of expenses will be kept.
Rick Johnson made the motion to approve proposal.
Eirene Blomberg seconded the motion
Vote: Motion passed unanimously
5- Committee updates:
Finance committee: Trevor Contreras , chair. He will ask Ken Barns to be a committee member. Both are now on the NWSSA bank account and have signing privileges.
Proposal Made by Trevor Contreras: Motion seconded by Rick Johnson.:
NWSSA will begin using Numbers and Boxes, Cathy Gallagher, bookkeeper, with an cost of $50 per hour. Request was also made to spend $35 per month on Quickbooks online software.
Discussion: Questions were brought up about the proposal. Board unanimously agreed to table this issue till questions can be addressed. Eirene Blomberg will work with Trevor Contreras to gain clarification. A board decision will be made on line, via email as per the By-Laws change in 2020.

6- Pro Bono Attorney for NWSSA
Proposal Made: Tamara Buchanan made the motion to “Start the search process and select a Pro Bono Attorney.
Stephen Taplin seconded the motion.
Vote- Unanimously passed.
General Question:
Current status of NWSSA Liability coverage to be reviewed with Pro Bon attorney– does it need to be updated.

Membership- Discussion about role and goals of Membership Committee.
Exhibition Committee: Agreed on new Chairperson. Clarified role of this committee is for finding galleries to exhibit NWSSA members work. Leon White’s position will be added to the newsletter list under the other board positions.
