The Richmond Beach Community Association, in partnership with the City of Shoreline, WA, announces a Public Art Project that will place up to 20 artist-embellished Orcas on display in prominent outdoor locations throughout our community.
We invite artists from the greater Shoreline/Puget Sound area and throughout Washington who have a passion for creating colorful, creative outdoor art pieces to submit a proposal for review by a panel of distinguished jurors. Selected artists will create their work on a prefabricated Orca blank. There will be a $500 honorarium (time & materials) for each piece selected.
Description: The Orcas, approx. 43″ wide x 20″ tall, are hollow (about 5 lbs.), are made of molded fiberglass, primed with plastic spray paint, and will be mounted on 6 ft stands. Selected Orcas will be outdoor public art, on display for about 6 months annually, from May through October. They will then head indoors for a well-deserved rest until next spring’s coming out party.
Our public art project was inspired in part by a similar project launched by Kirkland, WA, in 2014, with salmon as their fish of choice. Click here to view Kirkland’s complete exhibit,
